Rosacea isn’t “just a red face.”
It’s flushing that lingers.
Broken capillaries that won’t fade.
Spots that look like acne but don’t behave like acne.
And often, a quiet loss of confidence.
At No. 23 Skin, we treat rosacea every week. As consultant dermatologists in London, we see the full spectrum — vascular rosacea, papulopustular rosacea, telangiectatic flushing — and we treat it with evidence-based care that fits real life.
Because skin is to be lived in. And rosacea shouldn’t dictate how you show up in the world.
Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that commonly affects the central face — cheeks, nose, chin and forehead.
It can present as:
Persistent redness (vascular rosacea)
Visible broken blood vessels (telangiectasia)
Flushing and sensitivity
Acne-like spots (papulopustular rosacea)
Thickened skin in advanced cases
Medication helps some types. But vascular redness — the kind that flares with heat, stress or wine — often needs a different approach. That’s where laser comes in.
If you’ve been searching for “how to get rid of rosacea” or “treatment for red face dermatologist”, you’ve probably seen everything from miracle creams to restrictive diets.
Here’s the truth.
Rosacea is manageable.
It responds best to the right diagnosis.
And treatment depends on the subtype.
For persistent redness and visible vessels, we often recommend Sciton BBL (BroadBand Light).
BBL uses targeted light energy to treat haemoglobin (the red pigment in blood vessels). The light gently heats and coagulates the vessel, which then collapses and is reabsorbed by the body.
You can often see vessels darken or disappear during treatment. Results develop over 2–3 weeks as the skin resets.
It’s not a facial. It’s medical light therapy.
And when used correctly, it’s transformative.
Here’s what that looks like in real life.
Adam came to us with his son, who was struggling with acne. While he was here, he asked — almost as an aside — about the persistent redness across his cheeks.
Diagnosis: vascular rosacea.
This type can be stubborn. Topical medications don’t tend to shift established broken capillaries. So we recommended BBL.
During treatment, we could see the vessels respond immediately — some faded, others darkened temporarily before resolving. Two weeks later, the redness had dramatically reduced.
He was over the moon.
So much so that when he got home, his wife called and booked herself in for treatment. “Friendly, relaxed atmosphere, with fantastic results, a big thank you to Shannon.”
His skin:

After months of unhappy, reactive skin, Rhiannon came to us wanting help for rosacea — but without oral antibiotics or hormone treatments.
We respect that.
She opted for BBL on vascular settings. She’s had two treatments so far.
Her redness has significantly improved. Her skin tone is more even. And as a welcome side effect, she’s noticed smoother texture and softened fine lines.
Win-win. “Such a lovely warm welcome in a medical clinic where experienced dermatologists are there to support skin health.”
We’re serious about results. But we don’t do sterile.
Roxy had long-standing papulopustular rosacea — redness with inflammatory breakouts.
Her job involves travel, poor sleep, events, pressure. All common rosacea triggers.
In her case, laser alone wasn’t the answer.
We created a practical skincare routine that worked around airports and late nights. We prescribed targeted medication to calm inflammation before high-profile events. And we addressed lifestyle triggers without asking her to live like a monk.
Within 2–3 months, her rosacea settled completely.
For someone who spends time on red carpets, that was life-changing.
Because treatment should fit your life. Not the other way round.
Alex came to us with telangiectatic rosacea — visible capillaries and flushing.
BBL was our first line approach. After three sessions, his redness resolved fully.
His review says it better than we can:
“Going to the dermatologist has historically been a lukewarm experience.
Not so anymore. The team at No. 23 are a delight: they’re charming, highly skilled, actually warm, clever, attentive, and above all kind. I genuinely look forward to my trips to No. 23 and wouldn’t think of putting my pink-skinned needs in the hands of anyone else in London.”
We’ll take that.

Treatment works best when supported by good habits.
Common rosacea triggers include:
Spicy food
Alcohol
Extreme temperatures (hot baths, cold wind)
Intense exercise
Sun exposure
Harsh cosmetic products
Medications that cause vasodilation
You don’t need to eliminate everything. But awareness is power.
Moisturise regularly
Use gentle, low-irritation cleansers
Avoid exfoliating acids and scrubs
Avoid alcohol-based products
Do not use topical steroids on the face unless prescribed
Choose:
SPF 30 or above
Broad-spectrum UV protection
Zinc oxide or titanium dioxide (often better tolerated)
Tinted or green-based formulas to neutralise redness
The earlier rosacea is treated, the easier it is to control.
