How Much Does a Private Dermatologist Cost in the UK?

Consultant Dermatologists are highly qualified specialists (they have spent an average of 9 years training post-medical school, which is 5 years — that’s at least 14 years of training) so they are right to charge accordingly. The average cost for a private dermatologist appointment is between £250 and £300 in London, but bear in mind additional fees.

What are the additional fees?

If you have ever had a procedure or blood tests, or just a consultation with a private medical Consultant in the UK, chances are you have had surprises when it comes to the billing. What’s that extra line on the bill? Why is the hospital sending me an invoice as well as the doctor?

This is a common complaint.

Traditionally, a medical consultant rents a room in a hospital. The consultant will charge you for their time and the hospital makes money from the ancillary services, such as diagnostics, lab, or blood tests (which can be really expensive). Hence why you end up with multiple bills. My best advice is to get a rough estimate before you commit to seeing the consultant, or to get a specific quote in the consultation.

Here at No. 23 Skin, we believe in transparent pricing, which means two things – 1, that all the procedure costs are included in one price (e.g. mole removal includes the consultation, procedure, tests, and follow up) and 2, that you are quoted a price BEFORE treatment happens so you can say no if you don’t want to proceed.

If you would like to know more, or if you don’t understand a price you have quoted/want to sense check it, then please reach out – I am happy to help and my email is hc@23skin.co.uk.
