The Science: How Moxi Laser Treatment Works to Improve Skin Health

When the MOXI laser creates micro-coagulation zones in the skin, it induces a controlled thermal injury by targeting water molecules in the tissue. These tiny, precise areas of damage stimulate the skin’s natural healing mechanisms without removing the outer layer of skin (as seen with ablative lasers). Here’s how the body responds to this process:

  1. Inflammatory Response: The laser energy triggers an immediate, localised inflammatory response. Blood flow increases to the treated area, delivering oxygen and nutrients to support the healing process. Immune cells, including macrophages and neutrophils, are recruited to the site of injury to clean up damaged tissue and begin the healing process.
  2. Cellular Turnover: The skin’s natural regeneration cycle is accelerated. Fibroblasts, specialized cells within the skin, are activated to produce new collagen and elastin, the proteins responsible for skin firmness and elasticity. These proteins are critical for improving the skin’s structural integrity, leading to smoother, firmer skin over time.
  3. Exfoliation: As the skin repairs itself, the damaged surface cells are gradually pushed upward and slough off naturally. This exfoliation process reveals fresh, healthy skin beneath. The micro-coagulation zones formed by the laser darken and become rough to the touch. Over the course of several days, these areas flake away, leaving behind revitalized skin with an improved tone and texture.
  4. Collagen Remodeling: In the weeks following the treatment, the newly stimulated collagen fibers reorganize and strengthen, further improving the skin’s appearance. This gradual remodeling helps reduce fine lines, improve texture, and even out pigmentation.
  5. Pigment Correction: MOXI’s 1927nm wavelength specifically targets areas of hyperpigmentation by breaking down clusters of melanin (the pigment that gives skin its colour). The body’s natural processes then eliminate the excess melanin, leading to a more uniform skin tone.

Overall, the body replaces the damaged skin cells with fresh, healthy ones through a combination of increased cellular turnover, enhanced collagen production, and natural exfoliation, resulting in smoother, more radiant skin with minimal downtime. Win-win!
