Quick SPF Guide

Scroll down

There are a lot of decent SPFs on the marketplace now. Here is what to look for, and our favourites.

Look for:

  • SPF30 and above (we prefer SPF50) – they are much thinner and easier to apply than they ever used to be.
  • UVB protection – which is from the SPF factor.
  • UVA protection – the stars – preferably 5 stars, but definitely 4 and above.
  • Sell-by date – if you’re rummaging in the drawers for a sunscreen then make sure it is in date (usually use within 2 years).

Do:

  • Wear every day.
  • Reapply every two hours – or more frequently if needed after swimming etc.
  • Apply to children from the age of 6 months.
  • Remember your ears, hands, and backs of your calf.
  • Practice good overall sun protection – The Skin Cancer Foundation have a great guide here.
