When it comes to your skin, seeing a private dermatologist in London can make all the difference. Dermatologists are highly trained specialists—after medical school, they undergo an additional 9 years of focused training on average. That’s at least 14 years of expertise dedicated to understanding and treating skin conditions.
To make the most of your consultation, here are five essential tips to guide you:
Find someone who is right for your condition. Not all dermatologists specialize in the same conditions. Do your research to find someone who aligns with your specific concerns, whether it’s acne, eczema, or mole checks.
Give them a call and if their team is responsive and can articulate whether they are best for you – that’s a good sign. If flexibility matters to you, ask about availability—many private dermatologists split their time between NHS and private practice, often working a couple of sessions a months privately, so you may need to consider timing for follow ups.
Start with Google and Trustpilot for honest feedback. Patient reviews can provide valuable insights into the quality of care and overall experience. Don’t underestimate the power of word-of-mouth, either—ask friends or family for recommendations, especially if they’ve faced similar skin issues.
I can’t stress this enough. It is a legal requirement to have CQC registration in the UK if you are providing medical services. If the beauty salon down the road is offering mole removals (we’ve seen it) or acne treatments with a doctor and they haven’t got the correct governance, steer clear. Check the register here.
Harley Street might sound prestigious, but it doesn’t guarantee quality care. We have seen a trends where many patients (and dermatologists) are opting for clinics in more local settings. Why? A shift towards traditional, community-based care often results in better outcomes for both patients and practitioners.
This is particularly important if you’re having something like a mole removed, as you will need to have the mole tested in the lab – which can be a surprise cost (see blog here about why this happens). Here at No. 23 Skin, I make a point of having all the costs for procedures in one fee – the follow up from surgery is free of charge, because I feel it is our duty to look after you.
Booking a private dermatologist doesn’t need to be complicated. You can often book directly without a GP referral (unless you’re using insurance), and many clinics offer online scheduling for added convenience.
I set up this dermatology clinic because I found the whole industry confusing and intimidating. I know that having a skin condition can make you vulnerable, so you shouldn’t have to navigate a complicated healthcare system too. At No. 23 Skin, we’ve created a space where navigating dermatology is simple, approachable, and empowering. I’ve made it our mission to provide expert dermatology services without the stress.
If you have any questions or need advice, feel free to reach out. I’m here to help, and I’ll always give honest recommendations—even if that means suggesting another clinic.
