FAQs

What is a consultant dermatologist?

A consultant dermatologist is a medically qualified doctor who has completed extensive specialist training in skin health, skin diseases, and dermatological surgery. All our consultants are GMC-registered and bring years of NHS and private practice experience — so you’re in expert hands.

What can a dermatologist help with?

Dermatologists diagnose and treat all conditions affecting the skin, hair and nails — from acne, pigmentation and rosacea to eczema, psoriasis, hair loss and skin cancer. Whether your concern is medical, cosmetic or somewhere in between, our team will help you understand what’s going on — and what to do next.

Do I need a referral to see a dermatologist at No. 23 Skin?

No referral is needed for self-paying patients. You can book directly via our website or call the clinic on 02039411815. If you’re using private health insurance, check with your provider first, as some policies may require a GP referral.

What should I expect from my first consultation?

We start with a full discussion of your skin concern, medical history, and any previous treatments. Then we examine your skin, often using a dermatoscope or medical imaging if needed. You’ll leave with a clear plan — whether that’s treatment, prescriptions, further tests, or simply reassurance.

Can I see a dermatologist for acne or pigmentation?

Absolutely. These are two of the areas we do best. Our dermatologists regularly treat adult and hormonal acne, post-inflammatory pigmentation, melasma and sun damage. We offer treatments ranging from prescription plans to evidence-based lasers like AviClear and BBL. Give us a call on 02039411815 and we can chat you through it.

Who should I see for a mole check?

All of our dermatologists are trained in skin cancer detection and mole checks. If you’ve noticed a mole that’s changed — or just want peace of mind — book a mole check with any member of the team.

If you have a history of melanoma or multiple skin cancers, consider seeing Dr Bhate, Dr Roest, or Dr Dhariwal in the first instance.

Do you offer virtual consultations?

Yes. Mainly for acne and rosacea — an online consultation is a great first step. It allows our team to assess your skin remotely (and send you the prescriptions if required) and build a treatment plan that fits your lifestyle.

How do I book?

It’s easy to book and we are humans first – so we are easy to talk to. Give us a call on 02039411815, contact us here or book online via this portal.

How much are consultations and treatments?

We have some of the top dermatologists and our prices range from 205 to 350. Our price list is here, and if you’re not sure then please ask us about who would be best for you as we will be happy to advise.

Do you take Private Health Insurance?

Yes! We take all the major medical insurers. Please check with them if the dermatologist you’re booked with is covered by them as policies can vary widely (even with the same provider) so we can give you an indication of cover, but cannot guarantee it until you have chatted with them.
