Skin Tag Removal

Skin tags and warts are common skin growths. Most of the time, they’re harmless. But that doesn’t mean you want to live with them — especially when they rub, itch, or knock your confidence.

At No. 23 Skin, we remove skin tags and warts safely, quickly, and professionally — with expert aftercare that keeps your healing on track. Skin tag removal is one of our most in-demand procedures, and for good reason: it’s straightforward, effective, and done by dermatology specialists who know skin inside out.

Whether it’s the rough bump on your finger or a tag that’s been catching on your necklace for years, you’re in the right place.

Understanding Skin Tags and Warts

Before we dive into removal methods, let’s briefly discuss what skin tags and warts are:

  1. Skin Tags:

    • Small, soft growths that hang off the skin — usually on the neck, underarms, groin or eyelids
    • Often flesh-toned, they range in size from a speck to a few centimetres
    • Not dangerous and typically painless (unless irritated by jewellery, clothing, or movement)
    • Medically known as acrochordons
  2. Warts:

    • Commonly show up on fingers, hands (common warts), feet (plantar warts – which can be painful), or the genitals (genital warts – sexually transmitted)
    • Caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV)
    • Appear as rough, raised bumps
    • Can spread if left untreated

Methods of Skin Tag and Wart Removal

There’s more than one way to remove these growths. The method depends on your skin, the size and location of the growth, and how quickly you’d like it gone.

At-Home Remedies (Not Our First Choice)

Over-the-counter options like salicylic acid or freezing sprays (cryotherapy) exist. They can work on common warts and small skin tags, but they’re often slow, patchy, and don’t always give the result you hoped for. Inconsistent application and lack of follow-up care can lead to scarring or regrowth.

In-Clinic Removal (Our Recommendation)

Professional removal is faster, cleaner, and more effective. Here’s how we do it at No. 23 Skin:

  • Cryotherapy – We freeze the growth with professional in-clinic liquid nitrogen (not the type you get in the pharmacy)

  • Electrosurgery – A small electrical current burns the growth away

  • Excision – The growth is carefully snipped off under sterile conditions

All are safe, same-day procedures with minimal downtime. And because you’re with medical experts, you’ll also get personalised aftercare advice so healing is smooth.

What to Expect During Skin Tag Removal

Whether you choose an OTC product or an in-office procedure, here’s what to expect during skin tag and wart removal:

  1. Consultation: Schedule a consultation with a dermatologist to determine the best treatment approach. If you’re ready to dive straight in you can book with us here. Just choose skin tag removal as we don’t charge a separate consultation fee
  2. Preparation: Follow any pre-treatment instructions provided by your dermatologist, such as cleansing the area.
  3. Treatment: The removal procedure will be performed, with local anesthesia if necessary.
  4. Aftercare: Post-removal care instructions will be given, including wound care and the use of ointments or bandages. It is always recommended keeping the area clean and dry for 24-48 hours. There is more information here about the do’s and don’ts post treatment: What to expect – minor procedure (1)
  5. Healing: Healing times vary depending on the method used and the individual, but most people experience complete healing within a few weeks.
