Dull & Tired Skin

dermatologist London

Want to look fresh and dewy but your skin is telling a different story? We hear you.

First, why do we look dull and tired?

There are a few reasons our skin can look dull and tired. But there are ways for our skin to be fresh and dewy again.

  1. Reduced collagen production = thinning and sagging skin, which can make it appear dull.
  2. Decreased cell turnover: the natural shedding of our dull, dead skin cells slows as we age. The buildup makes our skin look a little lacklustre.
  3. Accumulation of sun damage: over time the sun’s UV rays breaks down collagen, and stimulates melanin production, creating an uneven skin pigmentation.
  4. Loss of moisture. Over time our skin gets less efficient at holding on to water. This can lead to dryness and flakiness.
  5. Lifestyle factors – smoking, poor nutrition, lack of exercise, and inadequate sleep can all cause issues with dull and tired-looking skin.

What can help tired and dull skin?

  1. The first steps is to focus on the fundamentals of skin health – getting the basics right such as sleep, hydration, exercise, and nutrition, really are important.
  2. Sunscreen! We all know it protects against skin cancer and sunburn, but it is your BEST anti-ageing product. It will reduce the damage UV rays cause on our skin, limit pigmentation and keeps our skin cells as healthy as possible. Even on a cloudy day it is important as 80% of the sun’s rays will penetrate the clouds.
  3. A good skincare routine. Consider adding retinols (to increase cell turnover) and Vitamin C (to brighten) to your regime. And moisturise, moisturise, moisturise.

Want a quick fix? Our treatments can help

For those who prefer to steer clear of a needle, this is where we excel. Future-proof your skin without the injectables:

  1. Sciton BBL – The only treatment proven (via a study at Stamford) to impact the genes within the skin cells – reversing the signs of ageing.  The treatment is in the same category as IPL/laser and stimulates collagen production, hits pigmentation and gets rid of redness at the same time. After just one appointment you see results of clearer, fresher skin. This is hands-down our most popular treatment, and is rebooked/recommended by our patients and our dermatologists over and over again.
  2. Advanced facials – Dull skin is commonly caused by dead skin cells collecting on the surface and the skin not shedding them effectively. Within our facials we use a light salicylic acid peel (which does not make you bright red), that clears the dead skin cells gently and effectively. We include a deeply hydrating mask and Dermalux LED light to finish the facial glowing.
  3. Moxi Laser – Think pigmentation, sun damage, and that general loss of bounce. It’s gentle, effective and doesn’t require weeks of downtime. Just healthy, refreshed skin – with visible results that build with each session. We love it for that “I can run out the house without concealer” feeling.
  4. Microneedling – for texture and bounce. Particularly effective if you have rough/bumpy skin and larger pores.

Happy to go up a gear and work with the dermatologists to achieve your skin goals? These are for you:

  1. Profhilo (or a “skin booster” as it is sometimes called) is hyaluronic acid that is injected under the skin. This is great for stimulating collagen and keeping content higher in the upper skin cells. Resulting in a dewy, plump complexion.
  2. Polynucleotides – Unlike traditional aesthetic treatments that simply fill or plump, polynucleotides actively repair and regenerate with minimal downtime and long-lasting results. Great around the eyes.
  3. Antiwrinkle injections – to open your eyes and smooth your forehead, with the option to get rid of that frown line and crows’ feet too.

A quick note on safety. As a medical dermatology clinic, our priority is to make sure your skin is as healthy as it can possibly be. When choosing skin treatments and technology, we go for safety and clinical efficacy FIRST.
